Course Summary:

Under STCW, all new entrants to the maritime industries are required to complete an STCW Basic Safety Training Week before joining a vessel. It is made up of the following courses:

Personal Safety and Social Responsibility 
You will gain knowledge of Personal Safety and Social Responsibility insight into life on-board a merchant vessel and code of conduct.

• Emergency Procedures
• Marine Pollution
• Safe Conduct Onboard

Personal Survival Techniques 
You will gain basic survival training and an understanding of what safety equipment you will find on a vessel under the safety of life at sea (SOLAS) regulations. There is practical training in our specially equipt pool on site in order for you to be able to gain practical knowledge and understanding of sea survival.

• Survival Techniques at sea
• Abandonment Procedures
• Righting Life Raft
• Familiarisation of Survival equipment
• Helicopter Rescue

Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting
You will gain the knowledge of the precautions needed to minimise the risk of fires, how fires are caused and how to extinguish them. This course includes plenty of practical training, and a focus on using fire fighting equipment with the use of breathing apparatus to extinguish various fires of size and intensity including casualty rescue in smoke filled enclosed spaces.

Our multi-storey steel fire unit will be used for live fire training.

Elementary First Aid 
You will gain the knowledge of providing emergancy first aid to incidents, accidents and injuries commonly occurring in a variety of businesses (burns, scalds, trips, allergies etc).

Security Awareness
You will gain the necessary knowledge and understanding to carry out security duties onboard a vessel.

• Importance of ship security and roles
• Aware of requirements and measures to maintain ship security
• Be able to recognise and report a security threat

These courses can be taken individually with us however our Basic Safety Week offers a cost saving package. 

Accomodation
We have reduced price corporate rates that we can offer you with hotels that are within a 5 minute walk from both the Glasgow Airport and our Head Office Training site. 

Objectives
STCW requires all seafarers to receive familiarisation and basic safety training or instruction in accordance with section A-VI/1 of the STCW Code. The minimum requirements for familiarisation and basic safety training are contained within the Basic Safety Training Week (BSTW) and meet the appropriate standard of competence.

Delegates will need
Writing materials, Towel, toiletries and change of clothing are required. Discharge book/other national ID number. Photographic ID.
